he would have been the best zerg player

This performance is fastest Cziffra's grand galop chromatique in the world

As Marcel Dupre said after hearing Cziffra's performance of Liszt's Sonata in B minor - Cziffra is the reincarnation of Liszt.

I too wish there were video of the entire 1964 Tokyo recital, especially the Rhapsodie espagnole. It seems strange that there isn't, since the Grand Galop was obviously filmed. Maybe the Japanese didn't have fast enough film stock...just a joke. Jegspillerpiano: I'm not sure how fast a "scolded cat" goes, but I guess it would depend on the feline. In all seriousness, you might want to seek out Cziffra's first studio recording of the Grand Galop. It might be more to your liking.

@cziffra11 Galop was a french dance.

lmfao this is such bullshit..... REALLY CZIFFRA?!
-
Well, I'm not sure it's a horse galloping just because "Galop" is in the title. If so, we're getting Secretariat instead of a Clydesdale.

@cziffra11 crap. you said it yourself - this is a scolded cat, whereas it's supposed to be horse galoping
Superb! No other pianist can top this performance. This piece is tailor-made to Cziffra's volcanic style. This is one of those legendary recordings of mythical status, like Horowitz playing Rachmaninoff's 3rd Concerto with John Barbirolli in 1941 or Furtwängler conducting Beethoven's 9th Symphnony in 1942.

Cziffra did alter the score in a number of places. Perhaps the most significant change he made was to avoid playing the chromatic theme in OCTAVES in the right hand as Liszt calls for when the theme recurs later in the piece. [see Bolet's performance]. Obviously the tempo of the entire piece needs to be slowed considerably to accommodate this and Cziffra must have felt it was a fair trade to avoid the octaves to keep the tempo like a scalded cat. I think he made the right decision.
