Chinese martial arts have a history of over five thousand years. The earliest form of Chinese martial arts can be traced to Taoist teachings passed down from a remote age focused on the harmony between man and nature in order to strengthen health and restore balance. Later in history, as warfare and invasion constantly plagued communities, the martial arts developed into a means to guard against injustice and battle applications were involved. The traditional Chinese martial arts has played an important role in the divinely-inspired Chinese culture. Martial artists must cultivate their Wu De (martial art virtue). Beginners first learn to endure pain, do good deeds, and tolerate insults from others. They then need to give up attachments to fame and self-interest. In the end, they are able to see the true causes and effects of conflicts, clearly distinguish between good and evil. Only then can they become true martial artists. In history, Chinese Martial Arts is also the fundamental training of many Taoist and Buddhist cultivation systems. Today, because of various reasons, many of the heritages of the orthodox martial arts have been gradually lost. Especially due to over half a century of suppression of traditional beliefs and values by the communist government in mainland China, the catastrophe of the "Cultural Revolution", and the emerge of modern gymnastic-like Wushu, the divine-inspired Chinese martial arts has come to the verge of becoming extinct. One after another, many of the great masters pass away, lost with them are their great and unique martial art techniques which has been past down generations, leaving behind ever-lasting regrets.

In view of this, the New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV) initiated the International Chinese Traditional Martial Arts Competition to present the Chinese traditional concept of civility and morality, revive the traditional martial arts techniques, and promote its essence and culture. The first of such competition was held in October 2008, where martial artists from North/South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa converged in New York City to share their passion, techniques in the traditional martial arts, and make friends from around the globe. We sincerely hope that all Chinese traditional martial artists will be working with us to show to the world the essence of traditional Chinese martial arts and contribute to the furtherance of this legacy. Lets strive forward to promote true Chinese culture and Martial Arts values, and realize the dream of all traditional martial artists and generations of martial arts masters.

We welcome you to the 2009 competition in October. Looking forward to seeing you in New York!

MARTIALARTS.NTDTV.COM
