  • IMHO the easiest way of getting the distance between the cover boards is to place them on either side of your bookblock, positioned exactly how they would be when finished. Then take a scrap of paper and wrap it around the spine, marking where it crosses the boards.

    Also, I'm pretty sure Elmer's white glue is PVA, but it's acidic and unusable for bookbinding. To get pH-Neutral PVA, you've gotta do some looking. I like to thin it with a bit of water to make it spread easier.
