  • Frankly, as a producer voice 123 has been an incredible resource. I do my do diligence, research appropriate pay for the work I'm requesting and have had great success in the 4 years I've been using it. Many of those "auditions" have resulted in lasting relationships with repeat work. I have also referred colleagues to talent. As a voice talent, you have the control on whether or not to use a service and/or audition for certain work.

  • @ThruTheLenz Great comment. Thanks!

  • I can't really speak for voice work since i would consider myself a hobbyist at best and haven't considered it something i would spend allot of money on to begin with. However, my friend is a graphic designer and he has not participated in any such website claiming to promote you. He started doing it professionally with a novel cover for a friend and has since been digitally restoring old photographs. I think recognition for your talent is something that happens over time, you cant just buy it.

  • @bassmanboe thats a good thought. What got me thinking about this was a story on NPR about a website for people to log on to.....place a request for graphic design work and the member artists then submit their work for and the customer picks a winner and pays them for the work. Voice 123 is pretty much the same. It was an interesting story.

  • What is really appropriate in this economy? If you do not think the pay is appropriate, why take it? Right?

    Good video. Glad your back.

  • @U2ForNow Im with ya. I look at it as a way to pay my dues. Working on my own to get my voice out there. As I make more money and gain more experiance I suppose I won't turn to the pay to play sites. But then again....its hard to tell these days.

  • So, I contacted the owners via Facebook. Well, they didn't like that and I was subsequently blackballed. Which, honestly, is fine. I get enough work via other sites and will NEVER use a "pay to play" site, again.

  • Then, after a while of not getting anything, but being highly ranked, I suggested that V123 could be doing more to ensure we got jobs. WEEEELLLLLL...that set off a very interesting side from their customer service group, and I use that term loosely. They don't consider the people paying them (the talents) their customers. I then tried to contact the owners through the standard channels and was never connected to them.

  • Hey, Adam. I had an absolute terrible experience with V123. First off, like you said, pay to play and audition and audition and audition....fully realizing I have a particular sounding voice. Yet, also taught to audition as much as possible. Anyway, I complained that I wasn't getting any jobs. They suggested a tactic. All of a sudden, I got a job. Then, the well went dry, again. It made me think that my customer was steered toward me.
