  • Toyota, their cars are bigger and tougher, and they have side airbags standard on most lines, don't deploy side airbags in the frontal crash, and better reliability.

  • these are 40mph crashes into a fixed object. when your jetta was hit the driver was probably doing 45, slammed brakes so slowed down some and your jetta probably moved forward some also

  • @whattheheck1000 you dont know shit about cars

  • @NJK1D If the cars are going in the same direction, that's pretty much true, and it's a strong fender bender. If they are going in opposite direction (head on collision) it's a severe crash, equivalent to hitting a wall at 50 mph.

  • @pouriania these are cars crashing into objects at a speed of 45mph into a still object with no speed or acceleration making the crash occur at 45mph but on the highway you may be going 45mph and a guy hits you at 55mph, the crash really is only hitting you at 10mph becuase ur both going over a speed of 45mph but since hes going 10mph faster and the same direction, hes hitting you at 10mph basically if you were standing still.

  • @ineverrememberthese Yes we can!

  • @whattheheck1000 I'm sure we're both correct to an extent :P We can settle on that, can't we? hah

  • @ineverrememberthese The hits are often of low force, and wouldn't cause any additional injury other than maybe a bump on the head. Hence the curtain airbags have limited use. Maybe they would have use in some cars, such as the IS250 you mentioned.

  • @whattheheck1000 (IS250 etc) don't control the movement of the driver's head as well as one would expect, and these vehicles could easily benefit from deployment of side curtain airbags to improve driver safety***

  • @whattheheck1000 Many cars designed in 06 and a few years prior are still in production. Many of these vehicles (IS250, Additionally, wrecks (depending upon trajectory) can in many instances cause yaw as the car rebounds from the object it hits, increasing the likelihood of contacting the B pillar etc. That's largely beyond the vehicle's ability to control. I would prefer to be safe than sorry. Call it a marketing ploy, but it definitely has real world function regardless.
