@photographedemode hi just right click on the adjustment layer and click on create clipping mask that way it will affect only the layer underneath it .

Thank you so much! I wish I had seen this video four hours ago. I might have saved myself three hours of unneeded backstepping. I will use the adjustment layer from now on.
