The actual German is tough to translate into English and keep the meaning and music together. Also the Nazis were very upset with the antiwar undertone of the original poem.

the Nazis had Lale Anderson arrested for undermining troop moral. They gave her such a hard time that she attempted suicide.

She had to record this for the german propaganda machine and she didnt even try to translate the lyrics of the original.
