Here's a review of my new Kiwaya KS-1 ukulele! Specifications: Soprano Mahogany Laminate Satin Finish Friction Tuners w/white buttons Rosewood fretboard & Compensated saddle $200 More info: http://www.kiwayaukuleles.com/ and http://elderly.com/new_instruments/items/KS1M.htm I would love to hear from any Kiwaya Concert Ukulele owners!

UPDATE: UU member & Kiwaya owner, Tube, PMed me noticing that the saddle on the Kiwaya was turned around! (At the 50-56 sec. mark)

Here's what happened... I had taken the saddle of the Kiwaya out & tried it in another uke, then put it back backwards. OOPS! I was hoping no one would notice on the YouTube video, but Tube did!

Now,the really funny thing was that the intonation was still very good! I know it's hard to believe, but true. I think the fact that due to the action being very low & the strings being Aquillas contributed to good intonation even with the saddle turned around. ALso I rarely play past the 5th fret on the soprano uke & use very little finger pressure while playing this uke.

Thanks for watching & noticing my "mistook" !

  • Because of you, I now have a KS1 ;o)

    Two little questions:

=> What strings do you use ?

=> what is the title of the song that you are playing at the end ?

  • I'm using Aquilla strings for soprano uke. The tune at the end is an excerpt from "Ain't She Sweet" .

I really like this Kiwaya & wouldn't mind getting a concert or tenor to add to the collection someday.

    Thanks for watching!

  • This is a great review! The only drawback for me is the friction tuners, although I have friction tuners on my Flukes and Fleas and am able to deal with them okay. I was thinking about getting the KS-0, but with the shallower soundbox, might it not sound as full? But it has geared tuners. Hmm.

  • Those are Gotoh tuners.

  • @jinfuuu

I just occasionally review ukes that I like. I'm not a music dealer.

  • hey. Do you still sell ukes?

  • Thankyou for your review. I bought a KS-1 after watching this and I was not disappointed. They are beautiful, elegant, simple and well crafted musical instruments. Far better made than others at this price point.

  • Good review! I just got one of these and am amazed by the resonance and punchiness.

  • nice review!
