CAMPAIGN EXTENDED THRU END OF SEPTEMBER! Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit and its partners today announce the launch of a one-of-a-kind fundraising campaign to help train thousands of Metro Detroiters for local jobs. The campaign features an envelope that can be filled with dollar bills, passed from person to person, until it reaches 25 people. Called Pay It 4ward, the program runs through July 31, 2009.
Simply put, Pay It 4ward is an investment in Metro Detroit in our people and our economy, said Lorna G. Utley, president and CEO, Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit. Were confident many Metro Detroiters will take just a little bit of their own good fortune and pay it forward to help their friends and neighbors get jobs. Its an opportunity for a small effort by many individuals to have an enormous collective impact on the lives of thousands of people.
Anyone can participate simply by picking up an official Pay It 4ward envelope, dropping in a dollar or more, and passing the envelope on to a trusted friend or colleague. Envelopes are available in the June 28th edition of the Sunday Free Press, at any of the 72 local Flagstar banking centers, at 19 Caribou Coffee locations throughout Metro Detroit and at Drakeshire Lanes in Farmington Hills, Mich. Envelopes may also be printed online at the Pay It 4ward homepage http://www.payit4warddetroit.org.
Once the envelope reaches the 25th person, that person is asked to take it to a Metro Detroit Flagstar banking center, drop it off at a Metro Detroit Caribou Coffee location or bring it to Drakeshire Lanes. Participants may also contact Goodwill Industries at (866) 964-GIVE to have it picked up.
Every $25 dollars collected in a Pay It 4ward envelope, or online at http://www.payit4warddetroit.org, will help provide an entire day of career training for an unemployed Metro Detroiter for a job of the future. For every 1,000 local people Goodwill Industries puts to work up, the organization estimates up to $25 million in wages are earned and spent locally to boost the Metro Detroit economy each year they are on the job.
In just the past two years, Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit has helped 2,500 people in Metro Detroit find a job through its employment training and support programs and has provided career assistance to thousands more throughout the region.
Its a win-win situation for everyone when we help Metro Detroiters get back to work, said Detroit Tigers centerfielder and Pay It 4ward spokesman Curtis Granderson. We all know someone in the Detroit area whos out of a job. Through Pay It 4ward, a contribution of as little as a dollar can help Goodwill Industries give our unemployed friends and neighbors the training and support they need to secure a new job and get back on their feet.
Starting today, Caribou Coffee is offering participants the chance to win prizes including free beverages and $100 gift cards. Additionally, anyone returning a completed envelope to Drakeshire Lanes will receive two free games of bowling. All participants including an e-mail address on their envelope will be eligible to win prizes additional prizes.
Goodwill Industries and its partners throughout Metro Detroit will announce special events and promotions in the coming days and weeks designed to generate excitement for the campaign.
