@Linux4UnMe It's a step in the right direction at least, The problem is, everyone is trying to polish the turd that s Gnome-shell. You can knock Unity, but so far Canonical is the only one yet that I've seen make a functional desktop built on top of Gnome 3. My biggest issue with Gnome-shell is they still haven't fixed the issue with the fglrx drivers, they simply blame ATI, which is ridiculous, because fglrx works on every other desktop, including Unity. Me, I've moved to KDE, screw it.

@ckildegaard It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

@JonathanIsrael708 cinnamon will be the default in mint 13, so while it seems like a diversion at present actually it is just the mint future

I thought the same thing until I found this
"For Ubuntu users, this question does not yet matter: Ubuntu is still using Gnome 2.
Gnome 3 is the successor of Gnome 2. Has been in developpement for a very long time, relies on largely rewritten gtk 3 libraries, etc.
Gnome Shell is just the surface of the system: the software that you see first when your computer is ready and that allows you to start applications and work with data."
From the Ubuntu forums
Gnome 3 is perfect. I am sorry for the people who don't understand the wonders of this new project. See, everybody is able to acess your system, mainly at home, and be aware of what you do with your pc. Whit G3, its impossible, they aren't able to figure out how it works or even how to get acess to your home folder. So I laught whe i read that G3 is for noobs, it protects your privacy, your movies and photos folder.... and so on. At office, ok, I am using Kde and Xfce, G3 is useless for office.

I think the themes "tab" in the gnome shell overview are mainly there for the developers to test out recent Cinnamon changes in different themes. Just quicker for them to switch.
