I had to read this book as I am a huge Bond fan and also enjoy Jeffrey Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme series. For an American thriller author to write in the biggest British spy novel franchise, it's quite the combination. Joanna Penn, author of Pentecost reviews Carte Blanche.
Agree completely, this would work as an original novel for an original character - but certainly not James Bond - I was let down by the plot and felt the stakes weren't high enough - I also felt the romance was quite static and flat.
I must confess I was one of the male who took great interest in what alcohol was consumed however, being a fan of Ian Flemings work, particularly Casino Royale - I liked that this made it feel like a Bond novel.
