In preparation for the upcoming opening of a new mine in Limestone County, Texas, Luminant, a competitive power generation company, walked a 6.5 million pound dragline across a state highway.
Draglines are large pieces of heavy equipment used in surface mining to remove the rock and soil that lie above coal. The new Kosse Mine will utilize two draglines, one on either side of the road. Because both are assembled on-site at one central build site, inevitably one dragline had to be relocated to the other side of the highway.
This project occurred on Sunday, March 1, with the walk beginning at 4:00 a.m. The road was cleared and reopened by 4:00 p.m.
