Just a quick render of the Audi R8 I've been modelling for a bit of practice over the past week or two

Just used a single directional light, with final gather and global illumination on.
There's a couple of patchy bits in the shading which I'm not sure about.

  • how do you make the grill please.. please help me.. i dont have idea on how to make one.. do i have to start on nurb curves and convert it to poly or something?? please help me

  • @HawxTeamDelta I just did it with standard poly modelling. Extruding them along and repositioning each of the vertices as I go.

  • nice modelling do you advise using a book off say amazon to learn this program because im pretty much trying to learn off tutorials and they seem to be getting me nowhere i need the real real basics explaining layout tools etc

  • I've bought books in the past for various programs and I always find I always lose interest in them and never get past page 5.

Do you have any friends that know Maya at all? I'd say that is your best bet.

Once you have figured out the absolute basics of Maya modelling (extruding edges, inserting edge loops, joining vertices, using image planes) you're pretty much set to create almost anything you want.

  • did u use nurbs or polygons which one is easier for making a car. cuz im having a lot of trouble with the finer details on my polygon supra like windows and were the hood ends before the windsheild

  • Used polygons, I pretty much never use nurbs, I feel like I have way more control over exactly what I'm doing with poplys.

Some bits get tricky, but that's the whole fun of modelling stuff in 3D; all the problem solving and stuff.

  • Nice modeling!

But it seems a bit short, don't you think?

  • Clean modelling, subbed!

  • nice car

  • How do you keep a model smoothed when rendering? Cuz my polygons become unsmoothed.

  • Cool. Looks better than the one I made =)

  • @JinXuanJun also ambient occlusion render pass is really good to use

  • how do you get that clean white look. What shaders do you use?

  • @JinXuanJun do an ambient occlusion render. go into hypershade and create a surface shader under the maya render nodes. then under the mental ray tab in hypershade create an ambient occlusion node and plug it into the the surface shader node. it should go into the default option. then double click on the occlusion node and in the attribute editor and set the samples to 64. make the white colour chip a really light grey.

now apply the surface shader to the model.
