Huwaa Meets Mom Cathay

This little South China Tiger cub named Huwaa was born on 31 January 2011. To avoid a hazard happened to her brother, who was taken away by a predatory bird, this precious little cub was retrieved for hand-rearing in an indoor environment on her 3rd day after she had received plenty of colostrum from her Mommy.

She returned to Laohu Valley Reserve on 14 May 2011, to reunite with her family and to start her rewilding training. She was warmly welcomed by her parents, brothers and sisters.

After spending some time to get used to each other, she and her mother Cathay were reunited! It is conventionally believed that the tiger mother will kill her abandoned cub, but we have proved that tiger mother recognized her lost cub and they can be reunited using proper methods. The reunion of mother and daughter will be of great importance for the cub's future, as it has been proved that cats learn faster from mothers and that a tiger cub not reared by tiger mother will have behavioural problems.

The music in the video is specially composed for Huwaa by musician Ash Madni, who is an enthusiastic supporter of Save China's Tigers.
