If you block that s not aikido. There s no block in aikido. This is usually taught on lesson 1 and is one of the reasons why anybody joins this martial art: it s for the fact that it does not contain blocks.
@raitaleo Technically you're right. The block should be applied before the strike starts swinging down. After that point, a different technique should be used to remain "aiki".
It s neither simple, nor wonderful, it s not even aikido as it was theoretically, at least, conceived, even if it s Doshu Moriteru Ueshiba demonstrating. In aikido there is no opposition, and in the first technique he executes a firm block. Even in karate they do better and softer blocks.
Nice video mate. This really shows how aikido can be used for self defence in dangerous situations. though I think the 2nd technique is the better of the 2 as you would have a much greater chance of taking an attacker of balance.
