We're doing it in our Concert Choir and I sing Alot on it too, I know exactly what you mean!

I don't believe that it goes into cut time. The only signatures that I see are 4/4 and 3/4

actually even though it is in 4/4 its played warmly: 72 so it is pretty much cut

That could be assumed as well, but the tempo really has very little to do with the time signature. You could make a cut time signature piece faster than a common time piece by merely changing the tempo markings. The same with 3/4 vs. 6/6, or 6/8 vs. 12/8. Also, the person I replied to made the statement "when it goes into cut time" as if it goes into cut time later in the piece, which it does not.
