2008 Top Safety Pick 2008 Subaru Forester: good performance in front, side, and rear tests and optional electronic stability control
FRONTAL OFFSET TEST

OVERALL EVALUATION: Good
Structure/safety cage Injury measures Restraints/dummy kinematics
Head/neck Chest Leg/foot, left Leg/foot, right
Good Good Good Good Acceptable Good

Important: Frontal crash test ratings can be compared only among vehicles of similar weight.
Test details:

The Subaru Forester was redesigned for the 2003 model year.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. During rebound, the head hit the roof inboard of the B-pillar.

Injury measures — Measures taken from the head, neck, chest, and left leg indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on the right tibia indicate that injuries to the lower leg would be possible. Head acceleration from the roof hit was negligible.

  • did you notice that seatbelt lock didnt function?

  • @kostaszoi It's probably calculated that when you're about to crash you will jam on the brakes thus slowing down some. I think if you ran into something full speed at 80mph(which come on, we all drive at...) it's not worth testing cause the damage be too damned great.

  • The MIGHTY forester, great car..

  • @kostaszoi Off-set crashes at 40 mph by the IIHS is more severe than what the car manufacturers or government puts them through. By the time you hit the brakes, usually the vehicles are doing 40 mph, which is a very severe crash. A 70 mph frontal off-set crash would be almost always fatal, and are very rare. 40 mph is what the insurance institute has determined the most common speed in crashes in their research.

  • how many star safety rating?

  • @kostaszoi I know but the crash test agencies states that they won't test vehicles at those speed , due to the fact that fatalities would be imminent with a speed like that

  • @kostaszoi 40 mp.h

  • poor dummies, put there life at risk for a car test

  • They're no speed demons and the engine can get a bit loud.

but it keeps going, and kicks snow square in the balls.

We have 98000 miles on hours and its still purrs like a snoring kitten.

    (a slightly noisey snoring kitten)

  • Very impressive; hardly any cab deformation at all!
