Kings & Queens of England Part 8 of 9: Queen Victoria.
****** This presentation is part of a school project carried out by French students ******
My name is Victoria. I am the daughter of Prince Edward Augustus, Duke of Kent and of Victoria de Saxe Cobourg. I was born on May 24th 1819 and I died in London on January 22nd 1901. I was Queen of Great Britain and Ireland from 1837 to 1901. I was also Empress of India. My reign lasted more than 63 years.
I was the last sovereign of the House of Hanover which ruled the British islands and their dependencies since 1714. I had several children, in particular Edward VII.
At 16 years old, I met my future husband, Prince Albert de Saxe Cobourg. He was my first cousin.
The father of my husband was indeed the brother of my mother. We married on February 10th
1840 in the royal chapel of St James Palace.
My first language was German. At 3 years old, I learnt how to speak English and French. Later
I learnt to speak Hindu because I was the ruler of India as well. I didnt go to school, I was taught at
home. I studied history, geography and the Bible. I was taught how to play the piano and learnt how to
paint, the hobby I enjoyed the most all my life.
Thanks to me, Great Britain became more and more powerful. Indeed, I developed the British Empire.
I was so important that now you can even see me on stamps.
I am the best! The cleverest and the nicest! I assure you!
God save Queen Victoria!
