In February 2005, for a video editing class I was taking at the time, I put together this short presentation about the tsunami that had struck Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and several other countries on December 26, 2004.

The video basically has two parts--the disaster as it unfolded, then the aftermath.

The song is "Casus Belli" by In the Nursery (from their 1993 soundtrack for the film, An Ambush of Ghosts.

The video was edited and compiled using Abode Premier version 6.

A side note: When I mention that the tsunami killed more people than the combined population of Farmington Hills, Southfield and Royal Oak--those are all suburbs of Detroit. I live in Royal Oak.

  • wow thanks now i know where it hit but on the other videos dont soo i love this video good job and thenks too for putting it on youtube! :-) 5 stars!

  • Thanks! :)

  • Good job on the video and thanks for posting it here. It is so easy for us who were not directly impacted by the disaster to forget just how awful the event was and the suffering that still exists today.

  • You're welcome, and thanks for the feedback.

  • You raise a very good point, and I thank you for the feedback. One thing I forgot to mention: For this video editing class assignment, the length was restricted to 4 or 5 minutes, as opposed to an hour or even two that most TV documentaries about the disaster got. So I didn't have the chance to put together a more detailed presentation.

  • More than 5 times the people who have watched this video died in that disaster.

    RIP the victims.

  • Poor people..

  • thats sort of ironic . on such a beautiful day, a disaster strikes and no one can do anything about it. pure helplessness.
