It's not pointless at all. It's a modern tool. Tools are used to make things. What things? Well whatever use anyone can find for a tool.

I bet the first paper printers were slow and useless too. The technology has to start somewhere. Once you can queue print jobs (with a drop basket or something) then it'll become immediately more viable. Just leave it running over night and come back the next day with precision crafted parts for your prototype.

Would be great if the home deport or DIY stores had these you could walk in buy the nut or bolt you want if you didn't have one. You could use one of these to make it. Or you could go to them with any design and ask them to make it

It would be a shame for you not to build muscle when these other people do it so easily using Atomic Fat Loss (go google it).

I would like to own a 3d printer, it still not anything that required new knowledge, only cheaper modulated technology. I was excited by this in 1970's, it just nothing new, same old stuff with micro-controllers and steppers etc. I would be impressed if you paid a sculptor to make the stuff you need, put people back to work who have the special skills.

there was a guy who is doing that on kickstarter. it takes used maker plastic, but also takes certain recyclable plastics and can re-spool, and recycle in the home.
