My cousin is the little girl in this clip! I have my .5 second of fame at 1:10 also. Yay.

I really cry every time I watch this video. I love how Elvis isn't singing over most of the playback. Even if the woman is an actress, the point gets across. I love this song and video so much!

He is DEFINITELY talking about someone real that he knew in this. Veronica may be fiction, but the person he based her on is most certainly NOT.

Is it weird that I'm 11 and love Elvis Costello? :) Just wondering.

A far cry from his rambunctious period in The 70's. He mellowed out in The80's. Nice tune, Mr. Costello.

Great songwriters can do great songs about anything.

Such a sad song. I think almost everyone can relate

Just wondering, i don't think my mother has dementia, but she does go on about the past a lot, and she doesn't seem to grasp that i don't even know the people that she is talking about because i was like 3 years old at the time. Anyway, i hope she lives forever just because i love her

It so sad to see my dad going through something similar, he slips from time to time he is a famous dr. with so many prices and how he tries to come back but with all the medication is hard for him to keep focous...... and to think that I may go like that in 30 years???? it also breaks my heart, we only can keep them alive thinking of them when they were THEMSELVES and not at the end of their lives, I understand what you are feeling merkinidgit sorry.

My mom had been an advanced amateur classical pianist before crippling arthritis silenced her. Once, years later, she pounded out a spirited piece on the air above her hospital bed in a foggy mixture of dementia and narcotics. Although I loved this song as the teenager of a single mom in the '70s, it absolutely breaks my heart in my middle-aged 2012.

If you listen you can hear him actually singing along with the track. The director liked it so much he kept his voice in the final edit. Listen you can hear it.
