  • But the point of the progressive perspective ISN"T to punish the rich. The point is to bring the system we already have to a state of balance and justice.

    You say that even when the high class pays 90% of the taxes that they earn it back anyway..

    So? In the end, the taxes are payed and the middle-class is raped less. Who cares WHAT the rich do? As long as it balances.

  • It's not about punishing the rich. It's about paying their fair share. The point is that the middle class ARE getting raped, because the rich are able to externalize the costs onto them while privatizing the benefits.

  • @kornflayx You are missing the point here. The problem is the rich don't EARN it back with services, they collect the taxation value in raised rents and land prices, just as if they were personally collecting the tax. This means our present taxation and land tenure system is roughly equivalent to the rich taxing the poor and pocketing the proceeds.
