Trains have the right of way over cars, pedestrians and emergency vehicles. Also, the EMS should have their scanner programmed such that it has rr frequencies

exactly

@jma10241 Trains can takeven longer. You wanto slowly slow to a stop.
If I can see well in both directions down the track, I do not STOP.
I SLOW, LOOK, LISTEN
and continue.
Grade crossing signals arextremely reliable, they "fail safe", but I STILLOOK for trains in case the signals fail toperate.

@robertgift trains can take 1 -2 miles to stop thats a fact
-
I remember i was railfanining with my dad, he was looking at a train NS on the other track while i was looking at CSX coming, when i saw a man on the tracks, the CSX train, going 56 MPH, ran over that guy

STOP LOOK LSTEN GO (if there is no train)

This is stuff I never thought about how emergency vehicles handle railroad crossings. I don't know why. We lived not too far from trains, but being in the suburbs, you think everything stays on roads.

@robertgift sorry

@geomodelrailroader Haha Throttle position 8 does not mean high speed.
Factors: Speed, grade, tonnage, wet rails. Abandon your "1 to 2 miles to stop" nonsense.
You want to a train to slow to a stop.
