Too straight forward. Very cabaret. This song especially, needs soul, AND RUNS! And belting. Great technical voice, not so hot with this song at all though.

I hear ya. I would've done runs and soul and belt (I CAN do all that, actually! haha) but I didn't realize it was supposed to be like that (didn't do my research) and also the musical director taught me the music like this and said to do it that way, the way it was on paper.

I should've just gone for it! I would definitely do it my way now, 6 years later.

Hey so i posted a comment a couple months ago saying that i was going to be trying out for The Wiz and now... IM DOROTHY!!!! this is one of my favorite songs from the whole show. youre fantastic and have given me so many ideas of how to do this song for my show =) thank you!!!

bittersweet, i'd say. just like in The Wizard of Oz... everyone is kinda sad to say bye to their friends, but that becomes secondary to wanting to get home to her family... that's what the whole play is about: finding your way home and being with the people who love you! so it's happy

This was actually really helpful to someone trying to learn the melody of the song for a callback :) I mean yeah you could have done more with it, but it sounds like you know that...but tbh it was kind of refreshing to hear the melody of the song for once, instead of some distorted riffed to death version. wow the wiz got a makeover BIGTIME....too much false etto for this song should have been a HUUUUUGE ending...i dont think its her fault but the musical directors...made it very "corny" and (i dont mean to sound racist) "white"

You have a really good voice but it was a bit fast but i guess it isnt your falt if the music director told you to sing it like tht xxxxxx :D in my musical theatre we are doing this and our audition is todayy !!! im auditioning for dorothy

Actually, the first time I heard this song was from this video, and I thought that you did really good. And even after watching the other versions of it, in my opinion, your version of it sounds better to me than the other versions which people insist "souls" are in.
