"Epitaph" (Fripp, McDonald, Lake, Giles, Sinfield).

From their debut studio album "In the Court of the Crimson King", 10/October/1969.

* Robert Fripp -- Guitar
* Ian McDonald -- flute, clarinet, saxophone, vibes, keyboards, mellotron, vocals
* Greg Lake -- bass guitar, lead vocals
* Michael Giles -- drums, percussion, vocals
* Peter Sinfield -- lyrics, illumination
* Barry Godber -- cover illustrations.

Lyrics:

The wall on which the prophets wrote
Is cracking at the seams.
Upon the instruments of death
The sunlight brightly gleams.
When every man is torn apart
With nightmares and with dreams,
Will no one lay the laurel wreath
When silence drowns the screams.

Confusion will be my epitaph.
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it we can all sit back
and laugh.
But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying,
Yes I fear tomorrow I'll be crying.

Between the iron gates of fate,
The seeds of time were sown,
And watered by the deeds of those
Who know and who are known;
Knowledge is a deadly friend
If no one sets the rules.
The fate of all mankind I see
Is in the hands of fools.

Confusion will be my epitaph.
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it we can all sit back
and laugh.
But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying,
Yes I fear tomorrow I'll be crying.

(including "March for No Reason" and "Tomorrow and Tomorrow").

  • Out of all the albums singles or any other musical works I've ever listened to- this track to me is the best piece of music I have ever heard - I remember when I first bought the album and played it - I found the best way to listen to it is through a good quality set of headphones in a dark room- I find myself within the music and feel part of it. -- In other words Brilliant track...

  • with the state of the world ...."tomorrow i fear that i'll be crying"..

  • Masterpiece!

  • @jeanlucchapelon Dafuq did I just read?

  • Funny how progressive is about bringing new sounds to rock and this is apparently blues.

  • King Crimson for me at this time is Fripp,Lake and the MELLOTRON!!!

    Later always the MELLOTRON!

I played many times In the court... the difficulty is to approach that particular sound more than the notes!!!

    If someone knows the solution?

  • MÁGICA!!! amazing song!
