  • I like the music in this song. It's simple and catchy and nice(and you did a great cover by the way). The problem is with the content. Now, this doesn't mean I'm against the legalization of marijuana for economic or health reasons, but I don't know...the lyrics are just so flagrantly douchey. "Fake love for an hour or two...then again I don't remember you." I hope it's all a joke, otherwise...what an ass.

  • @chasingdogma54 - Thanks for the compliment. It's interesting that you ended with "otherwise..." I've been trying very hard to decide these past few years whether John Mayer is genuine songwriter or a conceited womanizer. I still lean towards the former, yet I've always been an optimist, so... About the lyrics -- I agree, and I almost didn't record this song for that reason. It's just so freakin' peaceful and catchy!

  • As I wrote in my Laptop Sessions post, I think he used the marijuana reference as a metaphor for choices that your friends/family wouldn't expect you to make. And I HOPE the "I don't remember you" is referring to meeting new people (in keeping with the theme) rather than the result of some drug-hazed memory loss.

  • the song just lost its feel....where's the freaking slap picking!!?

  • Wow, if one is for "who says", just keep your odometer under 100g in ohio and its like a cop ticketing you after rolling through a stop sign because you forgot the difference between stop and yield. Rolling actually creates a lot more problems on paper. Personally I think everyone must be diligent and stop to look both ways before deciding to when to go.

  • I think John Mayer is a geuniune songwriter, just listen to the song "Belief". Its quite a deep song if you analyze it. Same with "Waiting On The World to Change". Admitedly while listening to "Who Says" I felt their was some douchness in the lyrics but I feel that just isnt how John Mayer writes, so I will assume its a deep song im not getting =].

  • you should cover Jimmie Vaughan, you have his playing style

  • Good job playing... but the song isn't as good as it needs to be. Learn 'Burn one down' by Ben Harper (much better tokin song)

  • I think he's implying a feeling of nostalgia instead of conceited douchiness.
