  • Sorry Iceman, but the Seattle waterfront is not "our waterfront". It will be just like Edmonds. Ever been to that quant little city of old people. You know, ones born before the '70's?? Guess what? There are 10 retirement homes that have blocaded this beautiful waterfront so their residents can enjoy "their" view. And let me tell ya, that is exactly what is happening in Seattle. Condo owners can't wait to get "their" view. And the rest of the little city, well efff them! But we all pay!

  • unfortunately, unless something is done immediately in terms of reinforcing the Alaska Way Viaduct undoubtedly it will meet the same fate the Cypress St Viaduct did in Oakland the next time there's a major earthquake. They were designed almost identically.

  • Alright, I don't like the idea of a new viaduct , but I would never say downtown was cut off from the water front. I've been there numerous times but even on my first visit, the waterfront was the first place I found myself in. Nothing touristy but I just fell downhill to the older buildings and walked UNDERNEATH the supposed barrier to the piers. So, build a tunnel or RESTORE the original viaduct to keep that great old fashion character my friends and I fell in love with this city for.

  • Why not just tear the thing down, create the waterfront, and build a tunnel under highway 5????????

  • Thanks for the post and comments! Let's work to build support for a tunnel!

  • I like the tunnel idea but I don't think Nickels is competent enough to oversee it being built. It will just turn into another Big Dig with him. I think the viaduct should be retrofitted to make it last another 20 years or so until we can actually elect a competent mayor who can oversee a tunnel construction without making his friends rich.

  • How can anyone vote for another viaduct monstrosity?! Are people THAT short sighted to realize that getting rid of it and replacing it with ANYTHING other than a huge wall of concrete is better? C'mon, think about the future of Seattle here. I lived here for 6 months before realizing there was stuff to do down on the waterfront. Absolutely ridiculous for a waterfront city to cut itself off from the waterfront.

  • absolute crap from team nickels! vote no on the tunnel
