Perhaps some of these tenant advocacy groups should start stepping up and offering to provide storage for the evicted tenants' stuff instead of trying to get laws passed that will put an additional financial burden on the landlord who already has expense of rehabbing the now-vacant apartment so it can be re-rented.

Too right!!! You sign a contract which is legally binding!! We landlords are not charities, you dont pay, you get kicked out!! Its quite simple really, im fed up of tennants taking the piss!!! Stop bleating, you sign a contract you know the rules!! I have bills to pay too!!!
