Night Vision GoPro HD Test

Transcripts of Night Vision GoPro | iFishVT:
The Night Vision GoPro. Modified by Ragecams I'm just going to show some tests footage of my new GoPro. I purchased this from ragecams.com I had them modify the GoPro so that there is no Infrared Filter in the lens which should allow it to see IR light And so I bought one of these little Sima IR Lights and now basically we're going to go down into the basement where there is no light at all, I'm going to put this on and we're going to check it out We're heading down in the basement and as you can see there is no light. I am going to flip on the IR light and let's head on down these creepy stairs. This is in 1080p mode With one Sima Light and this is complete darkness Now I have this in Spot Metering Mode. If I have the light really close to me it should meter down so that I am not overexposed and that is the idea anyway. I am hoping to use this for night fishing. So this is my GoPro fishing rig. I have the GoPro hooked up on a suction cup. which I just attach to the front of my Kayak From there I have one of those bending clamp tripod mounts which I have attached my two Sima lights to. And they are plastic wrapped just for splash protection. These lights are not waterproof. I only use one of the lights at a time. Basically the battery-life is 2-3 hours my average fishing trip may be 3-5 so I have two just in case. And the bungee cord I have here just loops through the kayak tie-downs So that there is no chance of losing it in the water. If you are interested in getting your own Night Vision GoPro camera I suggest contacting Dennis at Ragecams.com he will customize a night vision GoPro for you and get it to you with a very quick turn around.

  • Zachmac, does the Gopro sensor pick up lots of IR light, specifically concerning outside? I've had dismal performance in low light conditions with it. I'm debating implementing your Ragecams mod. What if you used both Sima lights at the same time? Is it possible to get a really broad range of visibility?

  • @djcarrollable Yes, infact the camera picks up so much of the light I have to put it in spot mode (with one light) in order to keep it from over-exposing. This year I am going to try and mount the light much further away from the camera so that it doesn't close the iris on my camera making it so you can only see me and allow the camera to see more of the surroundings.

  • hey Zack, its Dennis from RageCams, im going to send you a free lens for all the

video promotion you've done, what one do you want?

  • @smkdog435 Dennis,

I am glad that my last video was of use to you. Thanks for the offer on the new lens!! If you could send me a lens that as wide angle as you can get while still being able to fit in the housing and without vignetting that would be great!!!

When I get it I will create another video for you!! The last one has been very popular did you get many requests for NV lenses after I created it?

Can't wait to test out the new lens.

    Zachary

  • Can the gopro function in broad daylight with the IR filter removed?

  • @Solscud yes but the footage looks pink.

  • Great video, dude. What is the total cost of the GoPro with InfaRed and the 2 IR Lights? We are very interested in getting one of these for some night airsoft games that we play.

  • @smkdog435 Sweet!!

  • Unlike most board cameras, the IR cut filter on the GoPro is actually on the lens itself. To "modify" it all you have to do is put a cheap regular board lens on it and WALA!

To "switch it back" you just put the original GoPro IR cut lens back on.

  • Once you modify the GoPro for IR, it's basically an IR camera and should be kept for using night vision only. If you want a GoPro for daytime stuff, Just simply buy another one. They are not that expensive.

  • @Solscud Now ragecams has the new day night lenses for ir sensitive, and perfect day time replication, totally awesome
