It's called Open Source. Read about it. Also, read the companies mission statement and info about Ubuntu on their website.

@redspade04 Putting a GNU/Linux operating system on a Mac computer is indeed stupid - because you could have purchased a non-Mac computer with equivalent hardware for one-third to one-half the price.
If you really want stability and great performance, get Debian Linux - far more reliable than any Mac or "PC" on the market.

@randrewm97 It was a good idea you decided not to install openSUSE. That OS is pure shit.
-
@PuffTheMagicAtheist well, one is gnome and kde and idk what xubuntu is... but they arent the same is what i was meaning. ive used fedora when i was in college and it wasnt to bad... kind of a flash basic linux in my opinion. i was going to try open suse before i installed windows 7 on my dell but decided not to. i think ill stick with windows and osx for now. i would like to have the next ubuntu on my dell though cause its suppose to be a desktop version of jolicloud

@randrewm97 I respect your OS (or OSes) of choice. However, I do find it funny that you mentioned the instability Xubuntu, Kubuntu and Mint: They are all Ubuntu-based, which in turn is a derivative of an unstable branch of Debian.

@PuffTheMagicAtheist This is redspade04... New username. But I've never used debian but I have used ububtu, xubuntu, kubuntu, and my now favorite, mint. I do disagree though, I run Linux on my Dell and I haft to see that compared to windows 7, I have more apps crash. But, win 7 is a good version of windows. When I had Linux on it, I had to keep a force close task in my task bar cause I'd have them crash so often. On my Mac, I'll have some crash too, I like all oses
