Get it here: http://bit.ly/y6lbgV Just a quick un-box and visual demonstration of how easy it is to change the front hand guard to a much more useful quad rail system.

This firearm is California legal and is going to stay that way. In California, we cannot put on pistol grips or large magazines on it, so I won't be doing any of that.

Rather, this video will show how to make the gun a little more practical in less than 15-20 minutes of work. Actually more like 5 if you really are in a hurry.

Firearm from a local dealer.

NOTE. I edited and narrated at 2 in the morning so if it's not my best work I apologize!

Answer to question "Can it shoot 5.56 NATO?"

Youtube user GBOUNIT had this to say:

/snip

I emailed Russian American Armory Company (RAACAK@aol.com) a message: "I understand the Saiga hunting rifle chambered or listed as 223 is to fire 223 Remington. My question is, is it safe or adviseable to use NATO 5.56x45 MIL-SPEC ammunition? I would like to CLEARLY know if this Saiga 223 model is flexible enough to use both types of rounds safely for the life of the rifle." Clyde Woods from RAAC emailed back: "The Saiga.223 will shoot both commercial ammo and the Nato rounds."

  • Wow, this is really informative and I have not seen anyone do a vid on unboxing and adding forearm. It motivates me to get a SAIGA 223, bec I recently became aware of them at a gun show. Had no idea they made AK-platform rifles. My question to you is, although this is labeled as a SAIGA chambered in 223 Remington, can you safely use NATO 5.56x45 mil-spec ammunition?

  • @gbounit I found a forum discussing the answer to your question. I have trouble putting links in comments, so please expand "more info" and go to the very end. I pasted the link for you there. (the forum is the saiga forum". In the manual it says ".223 (5,56x45)" according to a photo on the forum. I filed my manual and don't have it handy to check against.

  • @tinfamily - Thank you for the link. I read the forum and there is a lot of confusion there, too. However, someone near the bottom incl pics of the manual that calls out BOTH the .223 and the 5,56x45 in the same sentence. You were a better resource than RAA, bec I had no luck contacting them, at least via email... I wanted to get written documentation that both rounds were safe, rather than word of mouth. Thanks so much! Too bad your in SF, or I'd visit and say hi!

  • @gbounit Thanks. I'm no gunsmith so I can only point and pictures and what other people say :) but that's the best info I found to go on. Incidentally I bought the side mount and a scope for it and I end up leaving it off most of the time. Between the rails, a light, and a side mounted scope, it all turns a relatively light firearm into a very heavy pig-of-a-gun, lol. just my 2 cents :)

  • @gbounit Awesome. Thanks for taking the time to contact them. It's good to have a final answer. I'll pass it on when it comes up on forums.

  • Good video

  • @tinfamily - Hahaha! I hear ya! Pretty soon, it will be like carrying a .50 cal gun! Well you'll get a pretty good arm workout I suppose... However, I am wishful for such a pig. I appreciate the feedback!

  • @tinfamily

LOL, even your background music is like spa music. Keep it up bro.

  • @readeronly1 I try to be easy going most of the time :)
