5:09 newsreel. The Marshall Islands are invaded by U.S. Troops during World War II. According to this newsreel, the campaign was the "Greatest American offensive in history". Capturing the islands from the Japanese, the takeover offered very strategic positioning which helped win the war in the Pacific. The Marshall Islands are a located between Pearl Harbor and Tokyo. After the war, the islands were use for nuclear bomb testing by the United States.
