  • Can't say I have ever had issues with the 200R breaking. As a matter of fact I think it is a great hook....landed many of big steelhead on fairly small patterns tied with the 200R (i.e. 14s & 12s). Perhaps the issue is not the hook...are you reefing on your vice to clamp your hooks in?

  • What type of fish does this catch?

  • Mostly just fisherman according to one commenter (see below), but I like to think mostly trout, and steelhead if tied larger.

  • Nice fly nice and easy to follow demo. lets have some more..

  • love the video man! ive looked at this and tied some like it but with orange ice dubbing and also the yellow ice dubbing nice video!

  • Great pattern and nice clear demonstration. Thanks a lot.

  • I broke a few(50) of these out up here in wny for some big steelhead. Great flies, i was picking up fish when others werent stumped. I love the ice dub too. Nice flashy effect. Thanks for the tutorial bro.

  • @miket786 Ive had a few flies in the 16 range bend out on trout in the 5-6 lb range and 18s bend on smaller fish. No, I dont torque too much, Im using an adjustable Dyna King just like you. Maybe its just the smaller sizes.

  • that 200R is a great looking hook, but its very weak, be forewarned. Because of this Ive been substituting with a 2457 or a 2488H. Not quite the same look but you wont have the hook straightened out when you hook into something big. 200Rs have the brunt of the force of the hook all put just behind the hook barb where the curve increases dramatically. Also apply liberal amounts of glue to the shank before wrapping those biots or use a wire reinforcement.

  • great job!!
