Awesomeness!

Very sad to see that fish wasn't returned to the sea

This was heartbreaking. It's an easy thing to play "armchair quarterback" and say it was dumb not to check for the license. The camaraderie between shipmates is the same on a fishing boat as it is on an aircraft carrier. Loyalty and trust mean as much as fresh water to drink; you can't captain a vessel without all of these. In an earlier time, the lying idiot mistaken for a Man by his shipmates would've been made to walk a plank with his hands tied. What a shame that some customs die out.

What a bunch of losers - first for not releasing such a magnificent fish and second for getting disqualified for having an unlicensed fisherman on board during the tournament - they lost the $1.2 million prize. Serves them right for being greedy pigs.

@KD2594 Yes. It is. Col. Mike Topp is indeed my gradfather.

@poughboy101 I know the guy who owns this boat, a fellow named Mike Topp. He's the CEO or somthing of some kind of a contracting company that does stuff for the military or government (not sure maybe both). 900 grand is nothing to him, from what I hear he's already surpassed that in legal fees fighting this bullshit in court. He used to be Colonel in the army from what I understand.

I was there too.. Dude, if it were my boat, i would have stuffed the mate with no license and hung HIM on the wall... With a NC fishing license hanging out of his mouth. :)
Great job on the catch though guys.. True amazing fish.
