Silent footage of Emily Davison rushing in front of a horse at the Derby on the 4th June,1913.
As the horses rounded Tattenham corner she rushed out and tried to catch hold of the king's horse, Anmer.
Emily Davison was thrown to the ground with a fractured skull. Some thought that she had tried to commit suicide and become a martyr to the suffragette cause. Others believed that she had not intended to kill herself but rather to attach a suffragette banner to the horse.
Either way, her funeral took place 10 days later and was attended by thousands of suffragettes. It became a major celebration of her ultimate sacrifice.
