In Romans, Paul says the the law is dead, and faith in Christ means seeing "the inward man"; the Christ inside of us, the spirit (which is willing) and not the flesh (which is weak). So, everyone who judges according to deeds, or "works", has not accepted Paul's Theology. For Paul, and for Jesus, it's not about how high up you are on the ladder of virtue, but, how devoted you are to climbing. Hence, a repentant sinner is more Christ-like than a righteous man who is satisfied with his progress.
