I stumbled upon this last week. Looks like KUTV 2 (a local CBS affiliate) also closes down for a little bit. Here is some of the test card that they use, and some bonus caption testing. As far as I can tell, there's no closedown/startup video at the beginning or the end of these tests. Immediately following the test is the beginning of a program.

No copyright infringement intended. This video is for other video geeks out there who enjoy this kind of stuff. :)

  • so, what's KUTV's signoff message like? Channel 2 is the only CBS O&O station that signs off. Love to see how 2 does it.

  • @kcthatsawinner Last time I checked, it simply went into the test card immediately following a commercial. I'll see if I can get a recording this weekend to confirm.

  • Hey, I saw the sign off for KSL 5 here on YouTube, what does KUTV's sign off look like? Can you describe what CBS 2's sign off is like? I would love to see how KUTV signs off!

  • @kcthatsawinner Sorry it took so long to reply. I think that youtube forgot to email me!

Anyway, I'm not sure what their sign off is like. I'll definitely check it out this weekend though and have everything ready to record!

  • @kcthatsawinner Well that was weird, I hit the wrong button and I guess it deleted my post. Anyway, I don't know what the sign off looks like. I was just surfing and came across the test pattern so I decided to record it. I'll keep my eye on KUTV this weekend and will have my recording stuff standing by!

  • @kcthatsawinner I fell asleep shortly before 4:30am. CBS2 was still on the air with infomercials long after KSL went off. We'll have to try again next weekend!

  • This looks like an HD-ized version of the SMPTE EG 1-1990 color bars; this variation, I've noticed, is used by CBS stations (both O&O and affiliated), as opposed to the RP 219-2002 (derived from ARIB STD-B28) standard bars that are designated for HD use in both 720p and 1080i.
