Check out this cool livecast demonstation at CES 2009. Intel showcased WiMAX enabled Centrino 2 Notebook PCs (embedded with an Intel WiFi/WiMAX Link 5050 Series PCI MiniCard) connected via live WiMAX network connections to the Internet. Intel equipped several public transit Tri-Met trains in Portland, Oregon with Webcams to deliver real-time livecasts over the Clearwire Mobile WiMAX network. Live video captures from the trains as they traversed the east/west railway tracks in Portland were displayed at the Intel kiosk via a WiMAX network in Las Vegas. Welcome to the world of wireless broadband.
In theory this is a great idea... sadly in reality, the Max train is the major crime arterial in Portland which already has high unemployment and a crime problem. I might try to use my PC on the train mid-day, but just watch the incidence of snatch and dash PC theft sky rocket on the max trains now.
There is a crime map of portland that groups most of the thefts right along the max lines. The thieves strike and use max to get away. It is convenient to snatch your PC along the way.
