Two great German singers from the interwar years, baritone Heinrich Schlusnus (1888-1952) and Lotte Lehmann (1888-1976) in duets from three Mozart operas:
(1) "Bei Männern, welche Liebe fühlen" (Papageno & Pamina) from Act 1 of Die Zauberflöte;
(2) "Crudel! Perchè finora" (Count Almaviva & Susanna)
from Act 3 of Le Nozze di Figaro (sung in German);
(3) " Là ci darem la mano" (Don Juan & Zerlina) from Act 1 of Don Giovanni
(sung in German)

All three were recorded in 1920 for Deutsche Grammophon.

  • Ravishingly beautiful singing!

  • Neben diesem wunderbaren Bariton von Schlusnus kommt die herrliche Stimme von

    der Lehmann voll zur Geltung.

  • Excellent duets by two very fine German singers! Thank you for Natali for the uploading!

  • Very beautiful.

  • Very beautiful!A nice post!Thank you!

  • Fine, lovely performances by two outstanding artists. Lehmann's voice, beautiful, unique, so identifiable. Thank you, Tim!

  • A fine duet! These wonderful voices seem to know no limitations. But they are both delicate, as Mozart music demands. Great musical culture. Thank you, dear Tim.

  • Wonderful duet singing from two master singers. Their styles are in complete sync. Schlusnus is a pleasure to listen to. Lehmann is a delight in repertoire not associated with her.

  • Would have loved to have heard Ms Lehmann as Pamina . . . not a role one associates her with.

  • It would be hard to find two more elegant and delightful singers to pair up in Mozart duets. Within this repertoire, it doesn't really get any better than this, does it?
