Guess who is asked to star as the butler in a remake of the classic German new year clip dinner for one? Is it Bruno Ganz or Hitler?
If you don't know the significance of this piece of music-hall derived entertainment, please see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinner_for_One
I would be interested to know if anyone, anywhere, "gets" this - can the linguistic interplays between the clip from untergang being repeatedly viewed with different translations and the repetition of the Frinton/May sketch in countries where the language is not native be seen as relevant to some kind of zeitgeist? If so what?
This is an amazingly funny video. many thanks

The Germans love of Dinner for One proves they have the best sense of humor of all European peoples.

I was introduced to the original sketch recently by some German friends, who were amazed that the English know virtually nothing about it, and that it isn't shown on British TV at all. I think this sketch referencing it though is very very funny!!
