Feliz cumple Chick!!!
10/2/1909 nace el baterista y director de orquesta Chick Webb su hora mas gloriosa fué con su banda de swing con la niña Ella Fitzgerald como cantante. Era un baterista por encima de la orquesta como lo fué luego Gene Krupa

@711ATOM If you've ever seen Ken Burns' "Jazz" series (highly recommended) it recounts a night when Benny Goodman's band played a competition with Chick Webb's orchestra. Both bands played their hearts out but by universal acclamation Webb's group was the winner by a long shot. I love both bands, myself!

Chick Webb "is the best" just because he handed Benny Goodman his a** back to him on a platter.

Lengo67, you really suck! More because "you" are a racist white man with no balls!!

great song ...great collection you got my friend! (fantastic sound) my compliments!

@711ATOM Oh! I like your enthusiam, but I disagree. Benny had better recording studios because he was a white man and his recording is far better. However, Chick Stomps it for sure. Even Krupa said he was blown away by this little man behind the drums.
It's too bad that we don't have a better recording of this man, and even worse, only because he was black.

Now that really is Stomping at the Savoy, look at the sheer joy on the faces of the dancers, every time I play music from this era, which is almost all the time, I mourn the passing of the greatest time in the history of modern music.

I always hate that the original Savoy Ballroom was made into a parking lot, IMHO it was just as much a landmark as The Village Vanguard, Birdland,
& The Cotton Club and it's a damn shame it's gone.
konidolfine - Thank you! Stompin' at the Savoy is most often associated with Benny Goodman, but it was originally arranged for Chick Webb's band. When I first heard Benny Goodman's version I couldn't understand where the "Stompin" was suppose to be. I didn't know it was a Chick Webb and His Orchestra piece until I was an adult. NOW the title makes sense; Chick Webb blows Benny Goodman's version away!
