Sean Penn was trying way too hard to fit this willie stark. Broderick Crawford's performance, however, is balanced perfectly.

the new one was better, And they made willi look bad. Because it was made in 1949 and we were fighting communism. But, if anyone readthe book, rthey would realize that he was a populist.

I'm about 3/4 of the way through the book, but I've seen neither of film version. Which one would people recommend? And should I avoid either of them? :-)
