When a newborn baby needs lifesaving medical care, every minute counts.
On average, about 30 babies each year are transported by a LifeLink III helicopter to University of Minnesota Amplatz Childrens Hospital. From every corner of the state and beyond, theyre delivered by a specially trained flight crew, traveling at speeds of up to 140 miles per hour.
That training also extends to the hospitals neonatal intensive care unit staff, who must be up to speed and ready to ride along at a moments notice.
Ryan Davenport reports.
