DAY 13 | CALL A FRIEND

Ask a friend who isn't intimately familiar with your business to come in and observe and work with you (not for you) for the day. They may point out some things to you that have gone right over your head or in one ear and out the other, because you have naturally developed a very narrow perspective of your business. You may even be pleasantly surprised when they suggest a new way to wrap items, or check out customers, or display products or services. Even if their suggestions are hard to take at first, because they are not your own ideas, don't discourage them from giving you their honest opinion.

And don't be too quick to say, "No, that will never work." Getting an outside view of your business can give you the boost you need to start making more positive changes in the way you do business. Sometimes you can't see what is so obvious to others who don't have anything to lose. They aren't prejudiced because they didn't create the wacko process, or buy the bizarre packaging, or make the stupid policy or decision, etc.

You can't go the distance in the small business life cycle if your stamina isn't strong—your reflexes slow down and you lose your concentration and focus, which leads to careless mistakes, exhaustion and frustration. In the final chapter of my book STARTUP SAVVY, I have developed a series of tactics that will re-energize you and breathe new life into your business, regardless of the type of business you operate and your place in the small business life cycle.

To start scoring points today in the high-stakes game of entrepreneurship, follow my 40-Day Survive to Five Campaign for increasing small business survival rates, and visit my web site and blog often at http://www.startupsavvy.biz for more insights and tips about small business ownership and management.
