TouchOSC drum pad interface on the apple iPad, configured to trigger a Redrum Drum Machine in Propellerhead Record+Reason. Transport and effect mapping make programming and live tweaking a breeze. Interfaced via wifi and translated to MIDI with Osculator: http://www.osculator.net
TouchOSC: http://www.hexler.net
Propellerhead Record+Reason: http://propellerhead.se
MPC Samples: http://kikbakonline.com
OSC: http://opensoundcontrol.org/

I'm no Jeremy Ellis on the MPC, but i wouldn't want to kick, beat, and elbow the iPad: http://www.youtube.com/user/jeremyellismusic

  • So does TouchOSC simply make the iPad into a controller for reason etc, or can it be used just on the iPad on it's own? I'd actually buy an iPad tomorrow if I could use it to tap around on an mpc on the train to work every day...

  • @aarroninmyhouse yes, this app only makes the iPad a control surface. There are other apps that have MPC type functionality though.

  • Will this work with reason 4? I have followed all your steps on your website but cant seem to get reason to recognize input. and if your wondering "yes reason recognizes OSCulator but no sound, help!

    Great stuff btw!

  • @Celiamhs Does OSCulator receive messages from TouchOSC?

  • @PeffTV

    Some Problem here :(

Yes, OSCulator is receiving messages from the ipad: i move the fader on the ipad and there are scrolling number in the pd-extended window. But when i start reason6 and add a new device, reason cant find osc.... osc is always started before reason

  • @afoolinaction it's called innovation. try it some time.

  • beyond awesome man. great job!

  • toys for little boys...

  • can this video apply to Reason 5 on it's own, or do I have to use Record?

  • wow that looks pretty cool :O

  • @Zkrudriverz Ofcourse real knobs will feel much better. But seriously, its $5 or something. Even if its fun for only an hour I think it will still be worth it. Its the price of a hot dog, atleast here where I live (Norway). How much hassle is it to set up with Reason ? I'm gonna try it out...

  • @PeffTV I actually think that the ability to use your ipad as ANY kind of control, is what makes this software truly amazing. Need a drum pad? Set one up. Need a keyboard? No problem. Need a set of mixer controls - oh we can do that too! It beats the pants off keyboard/mouse control. It's brilliant.

  • amazing video man! keep it up!

  • Sic work flow

  • @Zkrudriverz - I will have to agree with you on this - tactile control is still somewhat lost on the iPad, however the compromise is the ability to customize your layout. Something that you simply cannot do unless you build your own controller. With that said, the livid instrument stuff would be a way to go for either premade control surfaces or if you want to build something custom.

  • @mixomatosys I have posted these on my website!
