I heard they closed down the SETI research station on top of Black Mountian, because after all the years of searching for intelligent life, none could be found in Penasquitos. It is now a microwave relay station for poice, sheriff, fire, public safety radios and celluar phones. If you ever go up there don't stand too close to the towers or you will be sterilized for life!

I live at the base of this mountain in PQ. I've lived here since 1985 and have always wondered what it looks like from above. Those Transmission Towers have always astonished me because they are clearly seen from the 15 or 163. Thanks for the post.

Hey zachary22sd it is actually a research station for "SETI" (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) is the collective name for a number of activities to detect intelligent extraterrestrial life around Rancho Penasquitos.

I found your video through Google Planet. I've lived in PQ for 31 years and always thought it was much bigger. In 5th grade, someone told me it was a tracking station for NAS Miramar. Are there any offices up there or maybe just service rooms? How long of a hike was it to get there? Did you go through the road on the north side of the mountain or west side?
