  • fuckin poker is on espn...is that a sport? im not saying it isnt hard, but it is definitely not a sport.a sport takes athleticism..unless your in baseball or if your just really bad at it. fat people can be in drum corps but i bet they would get physically demolished if they were on a soccer field or basketball court which takes athleticsm.

  • @liveforeveroasis32 All I'm going to say to this is...Being fat isn't a deciding factor in athleticism. There are MANY fat guys who play football. So you might want to reword that. I've seen fat people do very demanding athletic activities, and be good at it. Weight isn't a deciding factor.

  • @pitousa13 lol i didnt say football. people can be fat and good at that cause theres a line and a purpose for them to be out there. im talking about basketball and soccer which you usually need athleticism in the highschool level to be good at. and what fat people are in the NBA? or in professional soccer? or the NHL? i havent seen any at all.

  • @liveforeveroasis32 Why yes, I have seen fat people in the NHL. Either way, unless you've done this, you have no room to talk. The change in people (physically) before and after drum corp, is ridiculous. MOST of these people...are NOT fat. The amount of physical effort, this takes, is not noticeable because they are trained to make it look smooth and easy. Not to mention the HOURS they work on this EVERY DAY ALL SUMMER LONG. To compare this to soccer and basketball is not the same.

  • @pitousa13 i know what the definition of a sport is, an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, but in todays culture, this shouldn't be considered a sport. i'm in marching band, i do well also, but no way in hell would i consider this a sport, because this is harder than any sport i have ever played. i've played football, basketball, baseball, and swam, and even this is harder than swimming. i hold myself to a higher standard here than in a sport

  • @cddrummer96 Even though I don't agree with you and I still say it's a sport, I like your answer. Well played sir. :)

  • @cddrummer96 Difference? Different sports are accepting of a loss. Drum Corps however, every has to give 110%, and there is no second chance.

  • @liveforeveroasis32 What about waking up at 6 am to go to drill box and spending the next 10 hours perfecting every set and note on the page? Or spending hours upon hours playing that triplet roll exercise to get every single diddle to flow perfectly? Your sport requires a lot of work, and so does mine. So how about we stop wasting time arguing like little girls over who puts forth more effort and spend it practicing?

  • For those of you who don't think DCI is very physically demanding: The top corps (such as this one) practice 12-16 hours a day, burning anywhere from 4000-10000 calories a day. There's a video called "DCI Musical Athletes" where they measure the oxygen consumption of a drummer.

  • One of my friends who marches Blue Devils told me that when they unload the truck or something that involves an assembly line, they sing the tuba part from 1:43 and pretend they are the guard XD

  • @liveforeveroasis32 it could be a different story.

  • @pitousa13 to comapre this to soccer and basketball isnt the same? what about waking up and going on a 3 mile run at 6 am. or spending 8 hrs in the gym to get your jump shot just right. dont tell me that this compares to basketball. i spent countless hours of my summer in the gym working training. if you go by regular practices compared to marching band practices then yes, i respect that. one of my good friends plays the tuba in marching band. ik its hard. but to dedicated athletes

  • What some people don't realize about this specific activity is that when you are in the corp, you can't quit; it takes commitment and focus to do something like this. The judges don't care if you are hungry, tired, bored with a show, or if you have a stomach ache; this is your only priory during the season so make it look like it.

  • sport/spôrt/

    Noun:

An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others.

This is the definition of sport. Drum Corps is the definition of sport.

  • @NickRobo1994 have you even been in Marching band?!?

Have you ever been outside Holding Attention for 10+ min in the pure heat?

Have you even Marched a full show, in the heat while wearing the Uniform?

Have you ever Guided, Memorized Spots, make sure your in a form, know the music, and Use Nothing but Lung Power to make a good sound while moving. Marching band is a lot harder than what your saying it is, It is both Mental and Physical.

when you take 4+ seasons of marching then you can talk.
