@AkihabaraDenNohGumi No, this information is engine sensitive. This pretty much only happens on Generations. Although, I've never played Sonic 4, so it might also be like it on that game.

@AkihabaraDenNohGumi I'm well aware of how often Shadow mentioned Maria in previous games, but that always had some bearing on the story. The fight in Generations had nothing to do with Maria, nor did Sonic bear any connection to her. Therefore any mention of Maria would be random and make no sense in the context of that scene

@AkihabaraDenNohGumi I'm beginning to regret saying anything at all. I'm tempted to just delete my original comment so people will stop questioning my logic, which was just an educated assumption based on what I knew up until that point. It was basically the simplest conclusion I could come to. Then all these other posters started throwing inconsistencies at me and demanding further explanations. That's what I meant when I said they were over-thinking it. Continuity errors aside, I still love it

@diddydak Here's a hint. Whenever you're lost, don't act like you already know where this is going. In this case, don't put words in mouth. If you actually read my comments with care, you know that I actuallly stated that I can accept Sonic games not having a very complex story (I used Halo, Fallout and Metal Gear (my favorite one) as examples), but putting something that litterally screws up continuity and not even properly explainned how it can be is just bullcrapping on people .

@filipeflower Actually to be fair, saying it is perfect is a little silly, especially since I specifically said 9.5, which is clearly not perfect. What I MEANT to say was that it was so fun to play that the imperfections didn't matter because I was too overcome by the sheer joy of all the parts of the game that WORK!
