The Mysterious Cerne Abbas Giant

This video shows the "Rude Man" of Abbas.That's just Dave of course. Pretending he has muscles !
Seriously though the image is a mystery and it was carved by the use of a series of one foot wide trenches crossing the hillside above the historic village of Cerne Abbas in Dorset UK.It would probably have been laid out by the use of wooden pegs and rope if ancient techniques were followed.
Scientific tests using scanning have shown that there might once have been something draped over the giant's left side, but which was grassed over long ago.This being the Hercules hypothesis.
Actually the arm does look rather out-stretched without purpose.An animal skin draped across would make aesthetic sense.

This carving is one of only two human image ancient hillside figures in the UK, the Long Man of Willmington being the other. The village of Cerne Abbas is eight miles north of Dorchester on the A352 Sherbourne road. The best viewing area is beside the A352
