Company of Strangers - Baby You're A Rich Man

1992 cover version of the Beatles classic by the Australian
"supergroup" consisting of
Simon Hussey, Jef Scott, James Reyne and Daryl Braithwaite. I overlayed the dodgy VHS clip with a fresh CD track so it sounds better than it looks! The ending is abit clumsy as a result but I think it was worth dusting off as it's a great, maybe the best, version. Joining in on background vocals are current Australian TV presenters Peter Mitchell (Ch7 Melbourne newsreader) and David Reyne (brother of James and current Ch10 morning host).

I know I've already posted here, but after listening to this song innumerable times, I have to conclude that it's one of those very few Beatles covers where the cover is actually better. To be fair to the Beatles, who wrote a bloody good song to start with, this is in part a function of the technology available. I'm sure if they were all still alive and got back together to redo it themselves, it would be a different matter.

This cover is only slightly different from the original and not enough to really make it stand out. I am a bit disappointed that the distinctive vocal sounds of James Reyne and Darryl Braithwaite aren't highlighted in the song. I think if they had done that it would have been unforgetable.
